Point Counter-Point

Today's 6 player game was an epic struggle between dear friends Wes and Devlin. Their relationship may have suffered as a result, but it's still too early to determine that. It started very early when Wes played a knight to block Devlin's wood. It prevented a decent amount of wood from being produced. They were also next to each other on the board so they were constantly battling for the same spots. Devlin managed to get the Longest Road and block Wes's settlement. Wes returned the favor by stealing the road and blocking one of Devlin's potential settlements. Meanwhile Derick had 4 cities and was very close to connecting his 2 groups for the Longest Road. Tony managed 7 points with no ore and no room to grow. I finished with 8 but then had 9 consecutive dice values that didn't give me any resource production. Devlin needed 1 sheep for the win on his turn and no one was trading. He went after Wes who had 6 sheep and 1 wood to steal a card. Devlin drew wood. Turn Over! Ian built a ton of roads to get the Longest Road and had 4 cities for the win. Didn't see that coming? Neither did we.

It's A Little Known Fact...

We have another new player to announce today. Rick Pendley. He would criticize us for being so obsessed about our silly board game. Meanwhile on the inside, he held back tears because he was scared of what we would say to his advances. Admiring from a distance, he often dreamt that he would play. He dreamt of today, and how he could set free the joy in his heart that was so tightly bottled up.

It was a 6 player game today as Tony was out to watch his precious race. I was out of today’s game to allow Rick the opportunity to play. My selfless act was met with praise and song. Comments like, “You’re a better man than me” could be heard from my fellow competitors. My modesty will not allow me to continue this part of the tale. I will only say this, stories of my generosity will be told for generations.

Wes comes away with the win by accident with only 1 city. He rolled a 7-7 which let him steal 2 resources and amazingly enough, it was exactly what he needed. He also held the Longest Road and a VP card. Newcomer Rick was actually in a good position to contest Wes for the road but his lack of experience cost him the opportunity. Derick and Ian tied with 2nd as Ore dried up for Derick stopping all city and development card production. Rick and Ken tied for last preventing either from losing points in the standings. Devlin finished in the middle as he lacked the infrastructure to continue building settlements.

Game’s Biggest Jerk: Wes – Wow, he’s really in the running for this every time he sits down. He won it with his very first move. He initiated a trade with Ian and put those cards in his hand. Derick mentioned that he would have made that trade and Wes quickly yanked those cards out of Ian’s hand and completed the same trade with Derick. Ian wasn’t the same the rest of the game.

Tension Builder

Derick takes the big win today on a 5 player game. He managed to build a road from one coast to the other, impressive. However he scored his 10 points during a special build and had to wait for 3 more people to play their turn and hope it would get back to him. It did, but barely, I got 8 points and bought a development card. It turned out to be a victory point. I went fishing for more cards but no luck. Ian was right before Derick with a slim chance for victory. Lady Luck slapped him across the face and gave him a 7 and forced him to discard. 3 people tied for 2nd with 9 points and the way we have our scoring set up, that didn't produce a lot of points.

Games Biggest Jerk: Wes - He shows up late to the game and we have to alter our placement layout to allow him in. He placed his settlements last back to back and he still managed to do very well.
